IR February 2026 Resource: A Practical Framework for Managing ESG Communications
Environmental, social and governance (ESG), sometimes called corporate social responsibility (CSR), is an extension of a public company’s investor relations, corporate communications, public relations and corporate social responsibility functions. From an investor relations (IR) standpoint, the primary goal of ESG is to assess a company’s risks across material and non-financial factors. Developing a robust ESG report enables us to effectively communicate our sustainability performance to influential ratings agencies including MSCI, Sustainalytics, S&P Global CSA and CDP. Since institutional investors increasingly incorporate these third-party ESG scores into their investment criteria and screening processes, transparent reporting helps ensure our ESG efforts are accurately reflected in these assessments.
Beyond these IR considerations, ESG offers a powerful storytelling tool for biopharma communicators. By demonstrating a company’s commitment to advancing their mission for patients, engaging in their communities, shaping an inclusive and diverse culture, and leading as a responsible company, biopharma communicators have an opportunity to strengthen corporate narrative and reputation among patients, current and prospective employees and community partners.
Whether you are just beginning your company’s ESG journey or working on your third annual report, keep these best practices in mind.
