Networking Redefined: Lead with the Value You Can Contribute
As communicators, our role is often to work with C-suite and other executives on their narratives and messaging. We don’t usually think of ourselves as brands. But with the changing environment and industry consolidations, it’s never been more important to be in the driver’s seat in communicating the value we can provide. And the best time to do this is not when we need it.
Join us in September for an interactive workshop led by Monique Kelley, Associate Professor of Strategic Communication, Boston University’s College of Communication and CEO and Founder of Monique Kelley Consulting, LLC. For the past two and a half years, Monique has been working with Fortune 100 and global biopharmaceutical companies as a fractional communications head solely through word-of-mouth, organic posts/storytelling on LinkedIn and networking. Not one cent spent on paid advertising or a website. She has been at full capacity with clients and often refers companies to trusted former coworkers, creating win-win opportunities
Monique is currently writing a book on relationship-based networking to encourage others to lead with the value they can contribute and conducting workshops, like this one, for her clients.
Whether you like networking, cringe at the thought of it or already do it effectively, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to learn something new with regards to showing up for your network.

Program Schedule
Module 1: Self-Leading
Evolving Comms roles means that more and more will be demanded of us. A rapidly changing, complex and ambiguous world requires communicators to increase self-awareness and self-management. By fostering self-trust and embracing vulnerability, we can cultivate positive and sustainable practices and embrace a growth mindset. Reflecting on the beliefs and doubts that might be holding us back, we’ll learn strategies for increasing the self-management and confidence required to meet these demands. In week 2, Carly will guide a practical applications lab where participants can discuss both learnings and fears, from managing stress to imposter syndrome.
- Week 1: Interactive Executive Coaching Session
Wednesday, April 9th @ 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET - Week 2: Practical Application Lab
Wednesday, April 16th @ 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET - Small-group pod meeting
Week of April 21st
Module 2: Leading Others
Whether leading a department of one or of many, biopharma communicators are building relationships down, up, across, and sometimes outside of the organization. Alignment with key stakeholders on our business function’s goals and objectives, strategy, and scope undoubtedly will become even more integral to our success with the evolution of our role. Carly will coach us on approaches to effectively provide feedback to colleagues, collaborate with others across the organization or client base, and develop staff to meet the expanded demands of both the business and the role in this changing environment. Our final practical applications lab will offer a space to reflect on the considerations and challenges of managing expectations, relationships, and teams.
- Week 3: Interactive Executive Coaching Session
Wednesday, April 30th @ 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET - Week 4: Practical Application Lab
Wednesday, May 7th @ 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET - Small-group pod meeting
Week of May 12th
Module 3: Leading the Business
Whether you have seat at the table or are trying to get one, the ability to express a point of view and influence the direction of the business is critical. Carly will equip the group with new ways to advocate for the role Comms/Corporate Affairs can play in the success of the business. We’ll take a fresh look at opportunities to effectively advise leaders on what to do and where to invest to drive business goals and decisions, as well as how to educate key stakeholders — whether internal business partners or clients — on the most effective means of collaborating with our function. Our practical applications lab in week 2 will provide a supportive space for participants to share insights, experiences, and strategies for growth with one another.
- Week 5: Interactive Executive Coaching Session
Wednesday, May 21st @ 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET - Week 6: Practical Application Lab
Wednesday, May 28th @ 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET
