Asking for Advice Instead of Feedback
Continuing with our monthly feedback/feedforward theme… Saying “I’m open to feedback” sounds good in theory, but it rarely sparks useful input.
Research from Harvard shows why: when people are asked for advice instead of feedback, they share 34% more areas for improvement and 56% more actionable suggestions. That small shift in language makes it easier for colleagues—especially more junior ones—to give us the insights we need to grow as leaders.
This connects directly to our upcoming Comm Convo on September 25th, where we’ll also unpack the difference between intention and impact when delivering feedback.
