The Value That’s Hard to Quantify

As we kick off this month’s theme, Beyond the Metrics, I’ve been thinking about how we show the value of what we do—especially when it comes to the parts of our work that don’t fit neatly into a spreadsheet.

How do we demonstrate the trust we build with patient advocacy groups who come to us because they see us as partners, not just messengers? Or the moments when executives pull us aside to help shape their presentations—interactions that happen behind the scenes but make all the difference in aligning teams?

These conversations and relationships are often invisible on paper, yet they’re some of the clearest indicators of our credibility and impact. There’s no easy way to quantify them, but they’re essential measures of success we can’t afford to overlook.

I don’t have all the answers, but this month, let’s talk about how we can capture and communicate the value of these intangibles—and make sure they’re part of the story we tell about our work.
