AI April 2026 Resource: AEO for Biopharma Communicators

If you work in biopharma communications, you’ve undoubtedly heard the acronym “AEO” or “GEO” at some point this year. If you’re still unaware, you still have a window to not only become aware but to become adept in its usage.

AEO stands for Answer Engine Optimization, and GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization. It’s common that these terms are used interchangeably, but in the most technical sense:

  • AEO: Optimizing your digital content and digital properties to appear on answer engine locations like the Google Knowledge Panel, Local Pack, People also searched for, Top Stories
  • GEO: Optimizing your digital content and digital properties to appear within the AI-generated answers from ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, AI Overview, etc.
